We want you to love your MFJ pieces forever. Here's how to care for them.

When you first receive your MFJ piece, it might not feel like the soft, silky royal alpaca you've heard about. This is normal.

The fibers are twisted tightly during knitting and washing. With wear, body heat, and movement, they relax and open up, creating tiny air pockets that make the fabric softer and more breathable. This is called "blooming."

Want to speed it up? Lightly steam the garment or soak it in cool water and lay flat to dry.

Give it a week of wear—you'll start to feel the difference.

We recommend hand-washing with gentle detergent to keep these pieces in good shape for years.

If you're using a machine, put the garment in a mesh bag and use the delicate or wool setting with cold water.

Always lay flat to dry to maintain shape.

Tip

Alpaca is odor-resistant and doesn't need frequent washing.

Spill something?

Blot immediately with a paper towel. Alpaca fibers are smooth and hydrophobic, so most stains blot right out. If it persists, rinse under cold water.

Royal alpaca pills less than natural fibers of similar softness, but you'll likely see some in the first few months—especially in high-friction areas like underarms, the back of sweaters, or inner thighs of pants.

This is normal for soft wools. The garment is shedding loose fibers as it settles in. After a few months and a couple rounds of depilling, the initial wave will calm down significantly.

You might still see the occasional pill here and there—that's just part of wearing natural fiber.

Use a cashmere comb or sweater stone to gently remove them. Avoid electric depillers.
