Royal alpaca is the finest grade of alpaca fiber (<19 microns), representing less than 1% of all alpaca fiber produced.

It’s exceptionally smooth, giving it a characteristic luster and drape.

We tested it. Pure royal alpaca is beautifully soft but very lightweight and delicate — not something you'd want to throw on and live in.

Our dual-knit construction pairs royal alpaca on the outside with pima cotton against your skin, plus 2% spandex to hold its shape. It's more durable and smoother against the body — especially if you're sensitive to wool or animal fibers.

The shawl is 100% royal alpaca, since draping does not require the same structure.

Cashmere is cloud-like and plushy. Royal alpaca is silky and smooth with a natural sheen. Both are exceptional fibers — if you already love cashmere, royal alpaca is what's been missing from your closet.

Our knitwear is designed with a relaxed, comfortable fit. We recommend checking the size chart on each product page for specific measurements and sizing up if you are in between sizes.

Our dual-knit construction holds its shape over time, though like all knits, the fabric may relax slightly with wear and return to shape after washing.

We recommend hand washing in cool water with a gentle detergent, then laying flat to dry. See our Care page for detailed instructions.

Yes, some pilling is expect with alpaca knitwear, especially finer grades like Royal.

Pilling is most common in areas of friction like the back, between legs and under the arms. After a few rounds of de-pilling using a cashmere comb, pilling should subside significantly.

All of our knitwear is made in small batches in Lima, Peru. Peru is where alpaca originate — the fiber, the tradition, the technical expertise. Peruvian knitters have been working with this material for thousands of years, and that is evident in the quality of Peruvian craftsmanship.
